Louhan
Louhan, a cross breed between chiclid from S. America is considered a hybrid tropical fish, having very striking features in appearance and colour,
the most attracting feature of all is it protruding forehead.
Keeping this fish, among the Chinese community in Oriental Asia, is belief can bring good luck & fortune to it's owner.
Louhan is relatively easy to handle although they are very dominant in an aquarium tank. Feeding with live fresh water shrimp or special Louhan
feed, 2 - 3 times a day will keep them happy and grows to its full exciting features in months.
Louhan live happily with gravel spread alone its tank and it will keeps them busy exercises their jaw by moving the gravel around its tank. Clean
and good water chemistry will stop all unnecessarily stress and sickness to the fish, partially changes the aquarium water every fortnight to
maintained the water quality.
Problems of Louhan
The most common problem faced by most Louhan keeper is the irritating growth on the fish. Breeder around the region have suggested with
many medication on this illness but none have shown a 100% recovery. Until today, we have accepted a lot of this sick Louhan for treatment in our
treatment tank, but sorry to say we did managed only about 30% to curing the sickness. Most die due to late treatment as the growth has badly
damaged the fish immune system.
For treating the sick Louhan, may i suggest to your attention to use a minimal amount of 'Cooper Safe' with some table salt to treat your fish
immediately whenever there is any budging growth on the fish. Early treatment have a proven record of speedy recovery.
The best way to avoid all sickness and have a healthier fish, may i suggest to you to:
1. Always drain 50% of your fish tank water with new dechlorinated water, once in every 7 days.
2. Always change your filtration wool once every 3 time of water change. Even though the filtration wool may look clean after each
time you washed it, the harmful bacteria and microorganism may still present in it.
3. Feed your fish with quality fish food(pellets) as a balance diet fish food will keep your fish healthy, active and vibrant.
